First National Conference on Civic Education for Social Studies Supervisors

PCCED in cooperation with the University of Asia and the Pacific, will be holding the First National Conference on Civic Education for Social Studies Supervisors, or Con-CESSS. The theme for the inaugural conference is “The Role of Social Studies in Education for Democracy”. The conference will be held from June 3-5, 2008 at the University of Asia and the Pacific, which is located along Pearl Drive, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

The first Con-CESSS aims to gather together the Social Studies supervisors from all over the country to discuss the issues, challenges, and opportunities attendant to their roles as one of the gatekeepers of civic education in the Philippines.

Certificate Program for Values Development (CPVD)

PCCED partners with the School of Education (SED) of the University of Asia and the Pacific this summer in organizing SED’s annual Certificate Program for Values Development (CPVD). The focus is on integrating civic education into the social studies curriculum. CPVD is an intensive three-week long seminar that covers the philosophical foundations, concepts, and pedagogy related to civic education.

Outstanding Senior Citizens Award – Criteria Development

PCCED is currently spearheading a criteria development program for a proposed Outstanding Senior Citizens Award for the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc.

The Outstanding Senior Citizens Award is a program that aims to recognize the work of Filipino senior citizens who have lived a life of exemplary citizenship. The awardees will serve as powerful examples to be emulated by the youth – whether as ordinary citizens who live their lives virtuously, or as citizens who have made extraordinary contributions to their communities. It is a pioneering effort that will give due recognition to the fact that even people in their advanced years may still be productive and active citizens. It also serves as a capstone for the many years that these people have devoted towards making the lives of their fellow citizens and their communities better.
