Promoting Democratic Values in the Barangays of Sorsogon

PCCED and ZABALKETA’S project in Sorsogon Province follows the general objective that the partnership of these two organizations seeks: To contribute to the promotion of the principles of democratic governance in decentralized public policy in the Philippines.  Specifically for this project, the partnership’s intervention in Sorsogon province seeks to promote the participation of youth leaders in the areas and processes of public decision-making in the barangays of Sorsogon. With this, there are three components to be undertaken to achieve the specific objective: the Civic Education Training Seminars, Intensive Summer Training for Teachers, and Project Citizen.

Promoting Democratic Values in the Barangays of Sorsogon Phase II

Period: November 2009 to February 2012

The project entitled “Promoting Democratic Values in the Barangays of Sorsogon” is the second phase of PCCED’s long-term work in Sorsogon Province, which began in 2008.  After the first phase carried out projects in the education and youth sectors across the province through the execution of the Civic Education Training Seminars (CETS) and Project Citizen (PC), PDVBS II takes on the area of good governance in the local government.

Promoting Democratic Values in the Barangays of Tagbilaran

Period: January 2010 to January 2012

The PCCED-ZABALKETA project in Tagbilaran City has two components: one (1) run of the Civic Education Training Seminars (CETS) for teachers and two (2) Barangay Rule of Law Seminars (BRLS) for barangay officials.  These work towards the PCCED-ZABALKETA partnership’s general objective of: Contributing to the promotion of principles of democratic governance in the decentralized public policies in the Philippines.

But specifically for Tagbilaran City, the program’s goal is: To promote the incorporation of democratic values in the areas and processes of decision-making in the barangays of Tagbilaran to strengthen the exercise of responsible citizenship. In Tagbilaran, the target of inculcating democratic values and citizenship in the barangays can be achieved by directly working with two influential groups in the community: secondary school teachers and the barangay official/ barangay peacekeeping council.
